We have recently started offering our patients a new bleaching system and have seen some AMAZING results! The KoR Whitening System works by restoring your teeth’s ability to absorb oxygen. The oxygen from its whitening gel is absorbed deeply into the tooth, dissolving stain molecules. KoR is also proven to produce little to no sensitivity. Call our office for more information or to schedule a consultation.

Ready for a brighter smile? Combine these tips with professional whitening and regular dental cleanings, and you will have a beautiful smile!
1. Use an electric toothbrush
A good quality electric toothbrush will not only clean your teeth and gums more effectively, it will also remove stain better than a manual toothbrush,(we recommend Philips Sonicare) especially when combined with a whitening toothpaste.
2. Floss
Flossing daily will help remove plaque and prevent gum disease.
3. Modify soda and other dark liquid consumption
One solution is to use a straw to drink them, which reduces exposure to stain.
Of course, it’s not exactly a classy way to enjoy a glass of red wine , so try a different solution–sip some water right after, and be sure to brush as soon as possible.
It also helps to drink your sodas and ice teas in a few minutes rather than sipping on them for hours.
4. Curb/quit smoking
. Smoking will take your teeth nowhere but the dark side. Cut back on (or cut out) smoking and the stain will go with it. Pipe stains can be especially tenacious.
5. Eat raw fruits and vegetables
Crunchy foods like raw apples and celery, and fruits like strawberries have natural stain-removal properties.
6. Keep up with your dental visits
Not only does your hygienist provide better oral health but they can get to areas you can’t reach.
Stay on schedule with your teeth cleaning and check up appointments before stain gets out of hand.
7. Start early
Age definitely contributes to staining of teeth. With the exception of internal stain due to antibiotics or other developmental reasons, external stain is a factor of our oral care and diet, and gets more stubborn over time.

A major focus of World Sleep Day 2012 is obstructive sleep apnea, which is a prevalent and often under-recognized problem. The Wisconsin Sleep Cohort Study estimated an OSA prevalence of 24% among men and 9% among women in that state of the USA.
Fortunately, with accurate diagnosis, both adult and pediatric sleep apnea are treatable and correctable. Treatment ranges from non-invasive procedures, such as continuous positive airway pressure (or CPAP, a machine that delivers air at a predetermined pressure through a mask placed over the nose), to oral appliances designed to keep the throat open, to surgery to remove excess tissue from the throat or enlarge the oral container by means of maxillomandibular advancement. Treatment can be life changing, as successful correction of sleep apnea can drastically improve sleep quality and overall health. Our office is highly trained in recognizing signs and symptoms of OSA and offer the oral appliance when prescribed by a sleep doctor. Call our office for more information regarding sleep apnea.

You may think that going to the dentist regularly may only serve to flash your pearly whites and healthy gums. While it is certainly true that regular check ups and cleanings help to promote good oral health by preventing tooth decay and gum disease, the benefits of maintaining oral health reach far beyond your mouth.
Marker of the State of your General Health
Your mouth and tongue are external markers of the state of your overall health. Your mouth offers a snaphot into whether you may be suffering from anemia, a vitamin or even a trace element deficiency. A number of viral and bacterial diseases first manifest in the oral cavity. Your mucous membranes and tongue also reveal whether you may be dehydrated and require additional fluids. Your dentist can make an assessment during a general examination.
Screening For Head and Neck Cancer if You Drink or Smoke
A simple screening exam by your dentist can detect lesions in your mouth, neck, and tongue which could be early precancerous areas of further concern. Early detection and treatment could potentially be life-saving. Your dentist can discuss how this important exam can be vital to your health and wellness.

Promotes General Cardiovascular Health/Preventive Health Care
Recent research suggests that poor oral hygeine resulting in plaque buildup and potentially leading to periodontal disease can lead to development of a systemic bacterial infection which could potentially trigger a heart attack or even lead to pneumonia. Regular flossing and check ups to remove plaque buildup on teeth can be potentially lifesaving.

Regular Dental Check-ups Important
Oral cancer screening is a routine part of a dental examination. Regular check-ups, including an examination of the entire mouth, are essential in the early detection of cancerous and pre-cancerous conditions. You may have a very small, but dangerous, oral spot or sore and not be aware of it.
Your dentist will carefully examine the inside of your mouth and tongue and in some patients may notice a flat, painless, white or red spot or a small sore. Although most of these are harmless, some are not. Harmful oral spots or sores often look identical to those that are harmless, but testing can tell them apart. If you have a sore with a likely cause, your dentist may treat it and ask you to return for re-examination.
Your dentist has recent good news about progress against cancer. It is now easier than ever to detect oral cancer early, when the opportunity for a cure is great. Only half of all patients diagnosed with oral cancer survive more than five years.
Your dentist has the skills and tools to ensure that early signs of cancer and pre-cancerous conditions are identified. You and your dentist can fight and win the battle against oral cancer. Know the early signs and see your dentist regularly.

The battle against plaque, tooth decay and gum disease might be more difficult for women after menopause, according to researchers at Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine and the Cleveland Clinic, who recommend that after menopause women should see a dentist for cleanings up to four times per year.
Scientists studied the dental status of 28 postmenopausal women with normal bones and 28 who were taking bisphosphonates therapies for osteoporosis for two years or longer. The women, between the ages of 51 and 80, received CT scans of their jaws and a complete periodontal check for dental plaque, bleeding and bone loss. Participants followed oral ADA guidelines for brushing, flossing and visiting the dentist twice a year.
Researchers found that both groups had high levels of dental plaque that could raise the risk of bone loss in the jawbone or reverse bone mass gained through medication therapies. After menopause, women at risk for osteoporosis are also at risk for gum disease (periodontal disease), which affects bone that anchors the teeth. Over time, dental plaque that accumulates on teeth can lead to periodontal disease.
Bone disease and gum disease are different diseases, researchers stressed. Women taking bisphosphonates need also to remove dental plaque to keep their jawbones strong and healthy.
Ask your hygenist for advice on brushing, flossing, healthy diet and dental visits. She will be able to recommend an oral care regimen that’s appropriate for your needs and health status.
